Sport
Fitness and Physical Education
Students across the school are involved in regular daily fitness, such as circuits, running, aerobics, Jump Jam, skipping. The focus for PE lessons usually coordinates with the timetable for the Upper Valley Primary School Sports Association. Students work to develop skills in the following areas: swimming, athletics, cross country, large and small ball skills (throwing, catching, striking), gymnastics. Working together as a team is also an important focus in PE lessons.
Upper Valley Primary School Sports Association
We belong to this association and are involved in a number of inter-school sports, such as Cross Country, Cricket, Unihoc, Flippaball, Athletics, Swimming, Soccer, Rugby, Netball, Cricket, Hockey, Touch, Multi Sport.
Netball
Trentham School offers all Year 3 to Year 6 children, boys and girls, the opportunity to play netball for the school in a competition at Heretaunga College every Saturday from May through to August. We also offer the opportunity for the players to trial for representative teams, in Year 5 and 6. All teams are coached by parents or teachers at either lunchtime or after school.
Flippaball
Flippaball is a mini version of water polo, played at H2O Xtream on Tuesdays from 3.30pm - 6pm. This involves 2 teams of 7 players to be in the pool against each other. It is a fast game that requires a lot of stamina, but it is also enjoyable. You must be in Year 4, 5 or 6 to play. Teams are coached by parents or teachers.
Unihoc
Unihoc (indoor hockey) is a fun, easy sport to play and is hugely popular at Trentham School. We have a number of teams playing after school every Monday, supported by a group of dedicated parents who coach teams during school lunch breaks. Trentham School are the A-grade trophy holders and the inter-school champions.
Lunch Time Sport
When fine, lunch time sports are arranged on the senior field and students are encouraged to get involved.
